ABSTRACT
The paper presents the main applications of lime products in industry, construction, environmental protection, and agriculture. The prospects for the decarbonisation of the lime products sector are discussed. Particular attention is given to the use of uncalcined limestone powders as low-carbon raw materials for construction materials, carbon capture and storage [CCS] technologies, and recarbonation. It is demonstrated that consideration of the entire life cycle of lime products, including the secondary uptake of carbon dioxide, is essential for assessing their actual carbon footprint and for the development of sustainable wall materials. In addition, the article outlines the challenges facing the lime industry in relation to the energy transition and the need to reduce carbon emissions.
